Creativity

Since I can remember I have been exercising the right side of my brain. My love of art was developed at an early age while I watched my older brother in admiration as he would scribble intently for what sometimes felt like hours. The result always amazed me.

I love having the ability to create something from nothing, using your own thoughts with no limitations to create something that otherwise would never have existed.

Creativity is more than just making things look pretty, it is CREATION!

The Training

Since graduating school in 2001 Design has been my oxygen, barely a day has passed where I have not been working, learning or generally enjoying some aspect of design.

Fresh out of school I began a Traineeship at a Design Studio allowing me to work on real jobs with real clients and like most 19 year olds in their first job, it scared the hell out of me. Soon enough I became comfortable with the tools I was using and the people I was working with thus my responsibilities began to grow.

During my Traineeship I had a curriculum to cover and a Certificate to achieve ( Certificate III in Multimedia).

This training covered on many aspects of design including:

The Experience

Through my training I had the chance to learn from inspirational designers and meet great people. Relationships were formed that lead me to my next employer, a large company covering many creative mediums Design, 3D animation, film, radio & sound engineering and more. As the Junior Graphic Designer I was there to assist the designers & programmers in any way possible however my main duties included Website Maintenance, Content & Layout Design & Print Alterations.

With an unplanned move of state, I found myself living in what many would agree is Australia's design city - Melbourne.

As my skills progressed as a designer I began getting requests from friends, family & associates to help out with design tasks (on the side) and before too long I had more work than I could manage after hours. It seemed an obvious choice at this point, being in a new city to set myself up as a self employed designer working from my home office, managing my own clients and of course learning the complications of running your own business - the hard way.

After many late nights and a stint in a Customer Service role I decided it was time to get back in to a design studio with regular hours and management to deal with the business side of things.

The small studio I found had a long standing customer base, some clients having been around since the beginning, some 20 years ago! Being just one of two designers responsibility was high as was the importance of time & client management.

It was here I had my first experience on a MAC, my first exposure to large format print and wow, did I learn a lot!
